    Today in Labor History
    Feb. 22, 2018: 
    Some 34,000 public school teachers throughout West Virginia struck today in protest of poor pay (they were ranked as the 48th worst-paid throughout the 50 states) and concerns over health care costs. They returned to work March 7 after scoring a 5 percent raise. The strike inspired aggressive teacher action in several other low-wage states including Oklahoma, Kentucky and Arizona.

    Sinclair Broadcast to buy Tribune Media for $3.9 billion 
    May 1o, 2017 |  Sinclair Broadcast Group moved Monday to cement its position as the nation’s largest broadcaster with a $3.9 billion agreement yo buy Tribune Media Co., a deal made possible by a recent FCC decision to relax station ownership rules. Tribune Media was created in 2014 when Tribune Co., then the parent of The Baltimore Sun, split its broadcasting and publishing divisions into separate, independent companies. Sinclair’s purchase of Tribune will not change Atapco’s impending purchase of The Sun’s office building on Mount Vernon, which is “on track…” baltimoresun.com

    Baltimore Sun headquarters sold to local developer
    May 25, 2017 |  Atapco brought the N. Calvert Street property for an undisclosed amount from Tribune Media, who retained ownership of all Tribune Publishing newspapers’ real estate after the newspapers were spun off into what’s now called Tronc. In 2014, Tribune Media sold the Port Covington parcel where the Sun’s printing plant still operated. That area is part of Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank’s redevelopment plan. It’s unclear what the future holds for that building. ss for the Calvert Street property, the Sun has a lease that runs through June 2018, with an option to renew… wbal.com
